Trick or Treat!

Happy Halloween!  We kicked off Halloween with parties at school.  The kids were allowed to dress up as book characters, fiction or non fiction.  Since I lack creativity Carly wore her peacock costume and Blake wore his baseball uniform and a Castro jersey.  He was the lone Cubs player among many Yankees players.

Carly's class had a little costume parade that the parents stayed to watch.  Surprisingly she was nervous about this since so many people would be watching her.  She did great and walked through the whole auditorium with a big smile on her face.
Avery wore a cute bow from Aunt Jenna and her Halloween shirt to cheer Carly on.  No worries Grandmas, I had socks on her, she just pulls them off as soon as we get home.
The kids were SOOO anxious to trick or treat.  We waited for Rodney to get home and stalled by taking pictures on the front step.  Somehow we landed on a bird theme which was not planned at all, it was just what the two older ones picked...a peacock, a duck and a yellow Angry Bird (cell phone game character).

She enjoys sitting by herself and posing for the camera....
And don't all ducks like corn???  She has a tooth poking through and was not in a great mood.
Our Pretty Peacock...she said she looked just like Uncle Don's peacock.
And the very popular Angry Bird....this costume was impossible to find and my friend Jen mailed one from IN.  He was VERY excited to receive that package in the mail!  He got lots of comments in the street about how cool his costume was...he was quite proud.
So where do you trick or treat in NYC??  Well we got invited to a friend's building that had 19 apartments that pass out candy.  You have to be on the guest list to attend.  We did go to 78th street and the townhouses pass out candy...it was rather insane as you can see from this picture.  All the shops also pass out candy so we went to the local places around us.  Our laundry man told Rodney to make sure we brought the kids by so we stopped there...he was passing out ordinary candy to the kids but when we came in he brought out special candy for our kids.  It was really sweet of him...but we do bring him a lot of business too!
Finally we stopped by one of the other fellow's apartments.  Aravind and Nivi asked our kids a week or so ago their favorite candies.  Well they bought large quantities of each item the kids listed plus baked cupcakes for them.  So we warmed up at their apartment and the kids buckets were overflowing.  Aravind even stuck all that didn't fit in their buckets into the back of the diaper bag.  It was so sweet and the kids loved it.

So you can enjoy Halloween in the city!  The kids loved it and fell fast asleep when we got home.  The duck was especially tired.
Their school is collecting extra candy to send to the troops.  So tomorrow night we will narrow our collection of candy and then send the extra to the great cause at school....rather than my hips.
