Blake's First Communion

We are having a hard time figuring out where the time went and how Blake is old enough already to make his First Communion.  On saturday along with 50 other 2nd graders Blake made his First Communion.  There were 200 total 2nd graders but just 50 in our session.  Mick and Susie flew in for the event and we made a weekend of it!

Blake seated in his place ready for the service to start.

A friend of Blake's from PS 6 and religious ed.
Another friend from school and religion class.
The religious ed teachers came around and lit a their communion candles for the renewal of baptismal vows.  This part made me nervous but he did great.

After the service we waited for the crowd to move out and we finally let Avery loose in the pew.

Blake and Carly with some more PS6 friends.
It was a really warm day so we opted to cross the street and take pictures in a shaded area.

My two cute guys!  Love them in a suit!
We let Blake pick the lunch spot.  He of course opted for Big Daddy's.  It wasn't fancy but he thought it was great and that is what we wanted.

Blake request a green cake with green icing.  I know its not very communion looking but remember we are minimalists in NYC and that plate was all I had.  It tasted pretty good!

We were really proud of Blake and it was a great weekend!  He was able to go to communion on Sunday for regular mass and he was really excited about trying it out.   Thanks to Grandpa and Grandma for making the trip and making it special for all of us!
